Muzzle Brake - A fitting attached to the muzzle of a firearm, with a series of perforations or slots, designed to deflect some of the forward-rushing gasses and pull the firearm forward, reducing recoil. If the perforations are concentrated on the top of the barrel, they will counteract muzzle-jump as well. While muzzle brakes can be effective in reducing recoil, their resultant blast is at least mildly offensive to anyone else standing nearby.
